About cluster

The research cluster aims to develop new knowledge, and management models in order to understand and support changing nature of innovation and openness as a functioning and efficient concept. The management challenges for open innovation include but are not limited to understanding openness of innovation as a source for business model innovation, and growth for global networked entrepreneurship, knowledge management and absorptive capacity for open innovation, organizational dynamic capabilities for open innovation, as well as management of inbound and outbound processes for open innovation, that encompass varieties of network interactions, motivation and involvement of different actors, and etc.

In order to achieve this, the cluster will focus on four underpinning research topics:

  • managing open innovation in business organizations and networks;
  • user role and user integration in open innovation;
  • open innovation as a driver of business model innovation and internationalization;
  • open innovation management  measurement and metrics at micro, mezo, and macro levels.

Cluster activities

Ongoing projects:

The project AISTIS is aiming at the development of complex methodology for an evaluation of national innovation system with regard of its evolution towards open innovation ecosystem. The methodology integrates the analysis of macro, mezzo and micro levels. The original empirical data sets will be collected, including the unique sets of macro indicators, pointing to the innovation system openness enabling constituents, primary quantitative data on open innovation management practices, processes, and capabilities in Lithuanian organizations, and case study based qualitative data on the enablement of open innovation within different social contexts (clusters, industrial networks, communities, and etc.). Project is oriented towards the collection of original, new and internationally compatible data sets, that would reinforce the new innovation policy making in Lithuania as it progresses towards the new value added generation and wealth generation conditions as it moves to the category of developed countries, and transition based growth sources expire. The original macro data sets will allow the comprehensive analysis of national innovation system development, original qualitative data sets from 500 organizations will enable evaluation of the typology and interaction profiles of the actors within open innovation ecosystem, as well as identify other important system parameters. Qualitative case studies conducted will allow understanding and evaluation of particular open innovation ecosystem functioning parameters within various social systems (clusters, communities, networks, and etc.).
