Digital Skills of Workers as a Competitive Factor in the Labor Market: A Comparative Assessment of EU Countries

Project no.: S-ST-25-59

Project description:

The accelerating digital and industrial transformation is fundamentally changing the structure and content of the labour market, driving the growing demand for digital skills. An increasing number of professions require higher level digital competences, while low skilled, easily automated jobs are disappearing. This trend particularly affects countries where human capital is not adequately prepared for technological change. The shortage of digital skills is becoming a systemic challenge, as it limits workers’ adaptability, reduces labour market flexibility, and undermines national competitiveness in the global arena.

The project aims to assess the impact of workers’ digital skills as a competitive factor in the labour market of European Union countries. The analysis will cover the links between digital skills and such macroeconomic and social indicators as employment, labour productivity, innovativeness, investment, and others. Drawing on data sources (CEDEFOP, Eurostat, OECD, etc.) and applying quantitative research methods (regression, correlation analysis, Granger causality test), the study will seek to identify the essential relationships in EU countries between the level of digital skills, the labor market, and macroeconomic indicators.

Project results:

The results of the research will make it possible to evaluate how disparities in digital skills between countries shape labor market segmentation, economic inequality, and the overall macroeconomic situation, as well as contribute to evidence-based policymaking and recommendations for stakeholders.
