Online health communities in the context of dominant digital health technologies: future foresight

Despite the wide scale of medical innovation and the activity of researchers, inventors, and developers of effective medical solutions, the number of people with chronic diseases has been constantly growing, and this is a challenge for health systems around the world. A key requirement for patients to be able to self-manage their disease is patient empowerment.

One of the most important instruments to successfully empower a patient to manage a chronic disease and maintain social relations, which are also a precondition for the prevention of chronic illnesses, is the possibility to access online health communities and participate in them.

Speaker: Dr. Vestina Vainauskienė, Researcher of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research Group at School of Economics and Business at Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania. V. Vainauskienė holds a Ph.D. in Management from the Kaunas University of Technology. She‘s current research focus on the patient empowerment, knowledge management and future foresight methodology.
