We invite short abstract (up to one page) submissions for a one-day Open Innovation Paper Studio Workshop focused on developing and refining research papers in a collaborative setting. This workshop is purely developmental – the emphasis is on constructive feedback and learning, not formal publication or proceedings. Henry Chesbrough will deliver a keynote address and moderate discussions, bringing his insights as the originator of the open innovation paradigm. Participants (including submitting authors, faculty, young researchers and PhD students) will engage in peer-to-peer onsight reviewing, guided by faculty facilitators, to help each other improve their research.
Open Innovation (OI) is understood as “a distributed innovation process based on purposively managed knowledge flows across organizational boundaries” (Chesbrough and Bogers, 2014, p.17). Over the past two decades, OI has become a key driver for leveraging external and internal knowledge to boost innovation success. Studies have shown that firms tapping into external sources like customers, startups, universities, or even crowd platforms often achieve better innovation performance and financial results (Chesbrough, 2023). The open innovation paradigm has rapidly gained traction since its introduction in 2003, with many companies, governments, and other organizations embedding OI principles into their structure and culture (Chesbrough, 2003). This workshop builds on that legacy, aiming to explore the future of open innovation research and practice.
❗Important: While the workshop’s central theme is open innovation, submissions need not use “open innovation” as a main keyword in their title or abstracts. We welcome papers that address innovation in a broader or contextual sense, as long as they relate to OI principles (e.g. external collaboration, knowledge sharing, co-creation). The goal is to cast a wide net on innovative research topics and then connect them to the open innovation discourse.
